Dying to Bloom to Participate in 6th Annual Earth Day Celebration
Nyack Shop to Demonstrate how to use Art to Express Your Zest for Life and be Earth-Friendly in Death at Nyack Chamber of Commerce Event
Nyack, NY (April 18, 2018) – Dying to Bloom, Nyack’s natural burial boutique, will be participating in the Nyack Chamber of Commerce’s 6th Annual Earth Day Celebration and Musicfest, Saturday, April 21st noon-4pm. The event is being held at the Main Street Gazebo, Cedar Street and surrounding parking area.
To help raise awareness and encourage a broader look at making environmentally-friendly burial choices, Dying to Bloom’s founder, Kerry Potter, has invited multimedia artist Cara Gael O'Regan of West Nyack to paint the lid to a "Mourning Dove" cardboard casket.
“I am excited to help Dying to Bloom bring conversations about green burial to the Nyack Earth Day celebration and use my art to get people talking about possible death care options. I am passionate about the environment and making better choices for the long-term health of the planet, but I am even more passionate about encouraging people to face these conversations and talk to their loved ones about what they really want to happen to their bodies when they die,” said Cara Gael O'Regan, Multimedia Artist.

While a cardboard coffin might not be considered very traditional, it’s more traditional than one might think. It was common in the pre-Civil War era for bodies to be cared for in the home and buried naturally, without chemicals, in very simple graves.
“Green and natural burials are not only planet-friendly, they provide an opportunity to save money on costly funerals,” said Kerry Potter, Founder, Dying to Bloom. “According to the Green Burial Council, Americans bury enough embalming fluid to fill eight Olympic-size swimming pools, enough metal to build the Golden Gate Bridge, and so much reinforced concrete in burial vaults that we could build a two-lane highway from New York to Detroit.”

In addition to Cara’s coffin painting, Dying to Bloom will also offer the opportunity for guests to paint a small "Stone of Remembrance" to leave at a beloved’s grave. Some of the other earth-friendly products available in the boutique will also be on display, including the Bios Urn (designed to transform ashes from a loved one into a tree), Let Your Love Grow (an organic mixture that allows your choice of plant to be nourished by cremated ashes), and biodegradable urns.
Dying to Bloom will also have a table at RCC’s Earth Day celebration on Monday April 23, 2018 at 10:00 AM in The Quad (in case of rain, the event will be held in the Student Union Building, room 3214). Stop by to see the company’s various earth-friendly products, including the exclusive Sweet Goodbye collection, BiosUrns, Let Your Love Grow organic mixture for ashes and biodegradable urns.
