Artist, author and professor from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, Karen Finley, will conduct a writing workshop at Edward Hopper House Art Center. The workshop will be held on two consecutive Saturdays, June 18, 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. and June 25, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
"On the 18th, participants will have a tour of the exhibit prior to the workshop. Using the infamous painting title of Edward Hopper, (a painting that was set in the bedroom in the Hopper House and on view), the class uses this title as inspiration for the workshop. We will look at the concept and memory of our knowing and experiencing summer: Vacations, summer fruits, 4h of July, the beach, celebrations, developmental passages and romance that will preside and prompt our own interior making creatively. Either in prose, poetic forms, sketches, or vignettes, hopefully with depth to uncover our own creative interior. The workshop will take place in the garden. Please bring your own notebook and feel comfortable to write and work outdoors."
The $85 fee includes the 2 day workshop and admission to Prelude.
Space is limited and pre-registration required.
