Grant Will Help Rockland Pride Center Rehab New HQ in Nyack

The Rockland County Pride Center supports and celebrates the LGBT community.

NYACK, NY — A ceremony Thursday celebrated the Rockland Pride Center in Nyack. New York Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul presented the organization with $250,000 to help rehab its new home at 28 S. Franklin St. She was joined by Rockland County Executive Ed Day and a host of other well-wishers, including Paul Adler, David Carlucci, Ellen Jaffee and Nyack's own Rosie O'Donnell.

“Rockland County prides itself on being a place of tolerance and diversity – a county where everyone is welcome,” the County Executive said. “Here in Nyack we stand in the shadows of the New New York Bridge, the gateway to the Hudson Valley and a symbol of progress and a symbol of our eagerness to embrace the future. That’s why it’s even more fitting that Nyack is home to the Pride Center, a place where so many people who might once have felt marginalized can now feel affirmed and included.”

The Rockland County Pride Center is an LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) organization with an anti-racist, social justice mission. Our purpose is to support and celebrate the LGBT community, challenge stereotypes and practices that adversely impact Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people, and provide a wide range of services to ensure equitable resources and opportunities for all – with no exceptions.

The grant money will enable the Pride Center to complete a full external facelift updating their 7,500 square foot building.

“This grant gives us the opportunity to expand critical services to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender communities of Rockland County at a time where we are facing growing need. This building will be the heart and home of the LGBT community, their families, and allies. The Pride Center is a place for everyone," said Rockland County Pride Center Executive Director Brooke Malloy. Malloy added, “The Board and community are grateful to the good people of New York for this capital grant.”
