Here's What you should know about your Medicare Hospice Benefit.
First, it IS a Benefit and it is part of the Medicare Program. Hospice is compassionate care at the end of life. Hospice care involves a team-oriented approach of expert medical care, pain management and emotional and spiritual support expressly tailored to the patient's wishes. Emotional and spiritual support also is extended to the family and loved ones. Generally, this care is provided in the patient's home or in a home-like setting operated by a hospice program. Medicare, private health insurance, and Medicaid in most states cover hospice care for patients who meet certain criteria.

This program is designed to answer all your questions about Hospice. Hospice is NOT about giving up hope, it’s about making the most of the time you have left. Choosing palliative or hospice care is about living the best possible life.
People who choose hospice care are not giving up hope; they are in fact redefining it. Although there may no longer be a possibility of curing their illness, they redirect their hope into mending and restoring relationships, spending quality time with those they love and finding peace and comfort. Most patients spend about three weeks in hospice, but it would benefit them to spend more time getting their needs met during the final chapter of their lives.
