Hudson Valley Forecast: Spring Showers Bring Mother's Day Flowers

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — We know it's five days out, but we're excited that Mother's Day looks to be sunny.

"The weekend looks decent ... with Saturday possibly seeing some rain showers. At the moment, Sunday (Mother's Day) looks like the better of the 2 days, with partly cloudy skies and temps in the 60s," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "We'll see if that forecast holds as we get closer."

Consider taking mom out to see spring in bloom at the Lasdon Park and Arboretum in Somers or the Untermeyer Conservancy in Yonkers, Stonecrop Gardens in Cold Spring, Blithewood Garden in Red Hook, the Orange County Arboretum in Montgomery, or the Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden in North Salem (just to name a few).

Before we get there, though, the rest of the workweek will be mostly cloudy and damp, with showers on Wednesday, Friday and possibly Saturday.

Here's the five-day forecast based on Rockland County:

• Wednesday - Cloudy. Showers likely late this morning, then a chance of showers this afternoon. Patchy fog. Highs in the mid 60s. Southeast winds around 5 mph late this morning, becoming light and variable. Chance of rain 60 percent.
• Wednesday night - Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers in the evening, then partly cloudy after midnight. Lows in the lower 50s. North winds 5 to 10 mph. Gusts up to 20 mph after midnight. Chance of rain 20 percent.
• Thursday - Mostly sunny. Highs around 70. North winds 5 to 10 mph. Gusts up to 20 mph in the morning.
• Thursday Night - Mostly cloudy. Lows around 50. East winds around 5 mph, becoming north after midnight.
• Friday - Mostly cloudy. A chance of rain in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 60s. Northeast winds around 5 mph, becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 50 percent.
• Friday Night - Cloudy with a 50 percent chance of rain. Lows in the upper 40s.
• Saturday - Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of rain. Highs in the mid 50s.
• Saturday Night - Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of rain. Lows in the lower 40s.
• Sunday - Sunny. Highs in the lower 60s.
• Sunday Night - Mostly clear. Lows in the lower 40s.
