Jury Convicts Nyack Woman in Slashing Case

One side of the victim's face was cut open from his ear to his mouth.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe today announced that Janice White, 42, of 4 Anna Street, Nyack, New York was convicted after a jury trial of:

• One count of Assault in the First Degree, a class “B” Violent Felony

• One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class “D” Felony

On Nov. 28, 2014, White slashed a man across the right side of his face with a knife at Memorial Park in Nyack. The slashing caused a deep laceration, spreading from the victim’s ear to the corner of his mouth.

She was arrested by Town of Orangetown police about an hour after the attack. The weapon was never recovered.

The victim was transported to Nyack Hospital, where he underwent surgery to close the severe wound, which required numerous stitches to the exterior of his face and inside his mouth.

White had a previous conviction for Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree from 1998.

The defendant remains at the Rockland County Jail. Sentencing will be on January 5, 2016. She faces a maximum of 25 years to in state prison on the top count.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Nabeela McLeod.
