Middle Schooler Says Man Tried to Lure Her into His Car

Police and school officials issued an alert after the incident was reported today.

A 12-year-old girl says she was approached on the way to Nyack Middle School this morning by a man who tried to get her into his car.

She reported the incident later at school, where officials called the Orangetown police at 1:36 p.m.

An Investigation has been launched jointly by the Orangetown and South Nyack Grandview Police Departments due to the shared jurisdiction of the incident location and the Nyack Middle School.

The investigation has developed the following description of the event:

The student was walking to school alone. She told police that a middle-aged white man driving a white car pulled even with her on South Midland Avenue at about 7:24 a.m.

He said, “Good morning” and the girl responded. He then said,“You’re very pretty.”

At that point, she said she got nervous. As she tried to head toward school, she said, he pulled into a commercial driveway, cutting off her route, and when she attempted to walk around the back of the car he backed up, blocking her way. She told police he then said, “How about you get in my car?” at which point she ran to school.

She described the man as heavy-set, bald, and wearing glasses, driving a newer-4-oor sedan, possibly with the gold and blue NYS license plates.
