Police Arrest 1 Shooter, Seek Another

Clarkstown police are asking the public's help to identify a man seen in surveillance videos.

NYACK, NY — Clarkstown police have arrested one man and are seeking another who was involved in a shooting incident Nov. 26 on Highview Court in Central Nyack.

Calls about gunshots sent officers to the area at 6:30 p.m. the day after Thanksgiving. They searched and found four shell casings. Then detectives looked through surveillance video, which showed two men firing handguns at each other in a public courtyard.

Police said they identified one of the suspects as James T. Gulifield, 20, of Nyack.

Detectives were able to locate Gulifield on Jan. 19 with the assistance of the Clarkstown Police Street Crime Unit. He was placed under arrest without incident on the following charges:

  • Attempted Murder Intention 2nd (felony)
  • Reckless Endangerment 1st (felony)
  • Criminal Use Firearm- Possess Deadly Loaded Weapon 1st (felony)
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon- 2nd Loaded Firearm

He was arraigned in Town of Clarkstown Justice Court, then sent to the Rockland County jail in lieu of $250,000 fully secured bond.

The Detective Bureau is working to identify additional suspects.
