Pope U.S. Visit 2015: Nanuet Deacon has Role at St. Patrick's

John Maloney, the chaplain of the Nanuet Fire Department and the oldest serving deacon in the Archdiocese of New York, has an important role Thursday, according to news reports.

The 91-year-old will be part of Pope Francis’s escort to the Vespers service at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and will sit on his left up at the altar during the evening prayers.

A deacon for 42 years, Maloney told The Journal News that he was elated at the opportunity.
