Rockland one of NY Counties with Lowest Jobless Rate

Unemployment rates in Rockland and Westchester counties were low enough in November to put the counties back on the state’s list of counties with the lowest unemployment rates -- a list that Putnam County has been on steadily through the fall.

According to the Department of Labor, counties in New York State with the lowest unemployment rates include:

  • Columbia County (3.5%)
  • Tompkins County (3.7%)
  • Nassau County (3.8%)
  • Saratoga County (3.8%)
  • Albany County (4.0%)
  • Putnam County (4.0%)
  • Dutchess County (4.1%)
  • Rockland County (4.1%)
  • Westchester County (4.1%)

In October, Westchester’s jobless rate was 4.3 percent and Rockland’s was 4.2 percent. Rockland had an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent in September 2015, while Westchester posted a rate of 4.7 percent. Putnam’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.1 percent in October, down from 4.4 percent in September.

Statewide, the unemployment rate stayed at 4.8 percent in November 2015, remaining at its lowest level since November 2007.

In addition, New York State’s unemployment rate remained below the comparable national unemployment rate of 5.0 percent in November 2015.
