Storm Alert: When Will It Hit Piermont and Nyack--and What Will It Bring?

The National Weather Service in New York has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for midnight tonight through 6PM Jan. 24 for Rockland, Putnam and Westchester counties.

* LOCATIONS...PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY...THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY...AND MOST OF SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT.

* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW AND ICE.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 3 TO 5 INCHES...WITH UP TO A TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE.

Hudson Valley Weather has established a Preliminary Storm Timeline:

• Light snow begins between 2am and 6am from south to north
• Steadiest snowfall likely between 9am and 3pm
• Snow could fall heavily for a time near and south of I-84
• Snow could mix with sleet and freezing rain for a brief time near and south of I-287.
• Snow tapers off between 12pm and 4pm from southwest to northeast

Hudson Valley Weather predicts 1-3 inches of snow for most of Rockland and Westchester counties. However, it is still iffy.

“The first coastal storm threat in quite some time takes aim on the Hudson Valley Saturday, and as is often the case with nor’easters… the forecast is likely to have some twists and turns,” they wrote.

Because the storm will span the Northeast Corridor, Accuweather.com Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams warned that travel could be tricky.

“People traveling to, from or through the I-81 and I-95 corridors spanning Friday night into Saturday night should expect major delays due to rain in the South and snow or a wintry mix farther north,” he said.
