Historical Society of the Nyacks Summer 2017 Exhibit: "Sally Savage Nyack Photographs"

Opening on Saturday, June 10, 2017, photographer Sally Savage is exhibiting prints of past photographs of Nyack at the Historical Society of Nyacks exhibition space in the historic Depew House, 50 Piermont Avenue, Nyack, NY 10960. This exhibit will continue every Saturday from 1-4 p.m., through July 29, 2017.

Although best known for her decades of coverage of people and events in Piermont, where she raised her family, Savage often visited nearby Nyack, for social gatherings, assignments and events, and she moved here in 2011. Shown in the exhibit are images of beloved Nyack personalities no longer with us, including an iconic photograph of Pete Seeger with the Clearwater sloop and the Tappan Zee bridge behind him.

Savage never missed one Clearwater Festival, held in Nyack's Memorial Park in the 1970s. Shown in the exhibit are images of beloved Nyack personalities no longer with us, including an iconic photograph of Pete Seeger with the Clearwater sloop and the Tappan Zee bridge behind him.

BEFORE DIGITAL: Savage is also putting together a display showing some of the film processes photographers went through before digital photography became the norm.

Savage has worked as a free-lance photo-journalist since the early 1970s. She was first known for her in-home candid portraiture work with children and families, then schools, and later for photo-journalism assignments covering Rockland events. Through the years, she has exhibited her personal artistic photography in many locations around Rockland County.

She re-established the Rockland Community College photography program for their Art Department and subsequently taught photography and darkroom skills to many students in Rockland and New Jersey. In 2001 Savage won the 'Visual Artist' category from the County Executive Annual Awards, and her work was twice selected by Rockland's “Percentage for Art” Committee.

The Museum will offer Savage's 1980s black and white post cards of Nyack for sale, and matted digital copies of the 8" x 10" prints will be available for $20
