Tuesday Morning Commute: Watch Out for 'Patchy Black Ice'

The National Weather Service Tuesday issued a Special Weather Statement warning drivers to be on the lookout for “patchy black ice” on the roadways in the Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties.

Temperatures are expected to drop through the 20s Tuesday morning, due to the remnants of an “arctic frontal passage.” The cold temps could make driving in some areas treacherous.

“This may allow for some patchy black ice to form... as any residual water on area roadways will be susceptible to freezing,” wrote the NWS. ”Caution should be exercised while driving this morning.”

Expect sunny conditions throughout the day in the region with highs in the low 20s. Tuesday night, there’s a chance of some flurries in the Hudson Valley with lows in the teens.
