United Water Warns West Nyack Customers of Phone Scams

United Water is advising customers to beware of phone scams.

A few customers in Westchester County have notified the company that they received questionable calls from people who said they were United Water employees and requested payment for an overdue bill.

The utility serves most of Rockland County. In Westchester, the company serves Ardsley, Bronxville, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on Hudson, New Rochelle, North Pelham, Pelham Manor, Port Chester, Rye, Rye Brook, and Tuckahoe.

The company says:

If a customer receives a phone call from an individual requesting payment, and they believe that person may not be from United Water, he or she should hang up and call United Water’s customer service number listed below.

In addition, customers should closely examine the identification of any person who comes to their home claiming to be from the water company.

United Water employees wear uniforms and I.D. badges with the company name and logo. The badge also shows the employee’s color photograph, name, job title and date the badge was issued. Customers can also look for a white United Water vehicle which prominently features the logo. A customer who has doubts should have the person wait outside. The customer can call United Water to verify that the company has sent someone to their home or contact their local police department.
