Valley Cottage Animal Hospital Adds Specialist to Team

She's trained in critical care and emergency medicine.

VALLEY COTTAGE, NY — Valley Cottage Animal Hospital has announced the addition of Melissa Salgado, DVM, DACVECC to their team of doctors and specialists.

Dr. Salgado is a Board-certified DVM specializing in Critical Care and emergency medicine.

As a Veterinary Criticalist, Dr. Salgado is an expert in emergency and critical care medicine – the animal equivalent of the Intensive Care Unit – dedicated to treating the most ill overall patients. In addition to veterinary school, a criticalist must complete a minimum of 3 additional years of intense training in emergency, surgery, and critical care through completion of a residency program. Here the focus is on the most up-to-date techniques for diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening disease processes in an emergency and the critical time while the animal is recovering. Once the veterinarian has completed these years of specialty residency training, the individual must then pass a rigorous board certification examination administered by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC). Upon successful completion of training and examination, the veterinarian is a Diplomate of the ACVECC.
