Work To Start On Shared-Use Path In South Nyack
Village officials asked the Thruway Authority to minimize impacts on residents.

SOUTH NYACK, NY — Construction is set to start in mid-August on the Shared Use Path across the Tappan Zee. With its Rockland terminus in South Nyack, the path has been a source of concernto village residents and officials for years.
Aside from the construction noise (and what is that given the years of work on the new bridge) there will also be transportation disruption. The South Broadway bridge will be reduced to one travel lane and a temporary light will direct traffic for the next year.
Mayor Bonnie Christian sent out an update Thursday.

Dear Residents:
Please read below for an update regarding the Shared Use Path.
Following the Village's endorsement of "Alternative F" two years ago, we have been working with the New York State Thruway Authority representatives to finalize the details of the Shared Use Path and minimize impacts on residents as we prepare for construction.
To recap: thanks to our collective efforts, we were successful in relocating the visitor parking lot and restrooms into Interchange 10 and away from our neighborhoods. Drivers will access the parking lot from Route 9W. Local residents and cyclists will use a side path that will run alongside the Esposito Trail and around Village Hall. As part of this project, the Thruway Authority will also be relocating the highway on-ramp currently located at Village Hall and making other local intersection improvements. Finally, Elizabeth Place Park will benefit from a new highway noise barrier and landscaping.
Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-August, beginning with clearing and grubbing at various sites. The Thruway Authority has committed to the Village that it will only take down those trees required to implement the plan we chose, and trees and other landscaping will be planted following construction. We have made it very clear that, while we understand construction necessitates temporary inconvenience, the end result must maintain the residential character of our small village.
In the coming weeks, the South Broadway bridge will be reduced to one travel lane. A temporary traffic light will direct traffic 24/7. This traffic pattern will be in place into next year.

Village staff and the Police Department have been working closely with the Thruway Authority regarding upcoming construction activities. We will continue to share the latest information with all of you.
