📰 News we're reading
1. No more flat fee: Ogdensburg households getting water meters (wwnytv.com) — Ogdensburg is moving from a flat water fee to individual meters, meaning your future bill will depend on how much water your household actually uses. City leaders say metering could cut usage, ease strain on infrastructure, and improve eligibility for grants, though some heavy users will pay more. Installation will be tied to broader water system upgrades and is still a couple of years away.
2. Morristown fire department quells early morning fire (northcountrynow.com) — Ogdensburg firefighters and Ogdensburg Rescue helped Morristown crews quickly contain an early-morning house fire on State Highway 37, preventing more serious damage. No one was hurt, but two adults, two children, and four dogs were displaced, and the home suffered smoke and water damage after a chimney malfunction sparked the blaze.
3. St. Lawrence County WIC announces October schedule (northcountrynow.com) — If you use WIC in Ogdensburg, you can book appointments at the Community Health Center of the North Country on Ford Street on October 14 and 27, with afternoon and daytime hours available. The schedule also includes dates in nearby Canton, Gouverneur, Massena, and Potsdam, and residents can call St. Lawrence County WIC for details or to set up a visit.
4. Gouverneur football tackles Massena, 35-13 (dailygazette.com) — Gouverneur's football team stayed unbeaten with a 35-13 homecoming win over Massena, keeping pace atop the Northern Athletic Conference. For Ogdensburg fans, the big news is that the Wildcats visit OFA in Ogdensburg on Friday, Sept. 25 for a rivalry matchup that could shake up the league standings.
5. Pick Your Prize (warm1013.com) — Ogdensburg listeners can join a multi-state "Pick Your Prize" radio contest through local station WYSX starting Oct. 5. By listening for on-air keywords and entering them online, residents get chances to win one of several prizes during weekday and weekend drawings through Oct. 30.
