2nd Snowfall Due Friday Night In Hudson Valley

Forecasters disagree on the total accumulation overnight, and the NWS has already issued a hazardous weather outlook for Sunday.

The second of three back-to-back snowfalls welcoming March to the Hudson Valley is expected to start Friday night. And the main event is predicted for Sunday.

"Before a large wintry storm ends the weekend and starts the new week, episodes of snow are likely to pester travelers into Saturday in part of the northeastern United States," says Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

Everyone's best guess is that Friday's will not be a minor snowfall like the one that covered our cars and driveways overnight. Widespread precipitation develops tonight and continues into early Saturday, says the National Weather Service.

However, the NWS says the southernmost Hudson Valley could see 1-3 inches of snow, and predicts a mixture of snow and sleet at the coast. But Hudson Valley Weather predicts 3-6 inches of snow for Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

Meteorologists agree that snow should start around midnight and taper off as Saturday morning ends.

Now, the first of the back-to-back snowfalls was predicted for overnight into Friday morning (but no one expected more than a dusting). Driving to work over roads with any snow on them takes caution.

"Whenever you have a snow threat evolve so quickly it means there is still room for changes all the way up to when the first flakes fly," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

Still, neither Thursday's nor Friday's snowfall is what the meteorologists are focused on. The NWS has already posted a hazardous weather outlook for Sunday, saying only "there is the potential for a significant snowfall Sunday night into Monday morning."

And by the way, temperatures will remain well below normal this weekend.
