Bernie Sanders Supporters Meet Up at the Blue Pig

Westchester organizers are galvanized about Sanders' presidential campaign.

More than 40 Westchester County residents gathered in Croton-on-Hudson Wednesday night as part of a national day of political organizing for Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign that involved more than 100,000 people nationwide, organizers said.

People for Bernie is working to mobilize more than 100,000 Americans who will in turn organize in their communities. Sanders has called for a “political revolution” to inspire every citizen to come together to combat the billionaire class who is out to buy this election and dominate the political landscape, organizers said in a press release.

“This is our 3rd meet up of Westchester People for Bernie. The numbers of people, their diversity and enthusiasm are extremely heartening,” said People for Bernie volunteer organizer Susan Rubin.

The group met at the Blue Pig ice cream shop.

“Tonight was an amazing experience, I have never voted, let alone gotten politically involved, but when I first heard of Bernie Sanders, I thought ‘here is a politician who is being honest’ and I knew I had to get involved,” said People for Bernie supporter Lawrence Tandol.

Organizers pointed to Sanders’ messages of combating income and wealth inequality, overturning Citizens United, tuition-free public colleges and universities, ending mass incarceration, and expanding Medicare to provide healthcare to all Americans, saying it is resonating throughout Westchester County.

“Bernie is using the ‘R’ word. He’s calling for a grass-roots led political revolution. How do we help make that happen here in Westchester?” asked Westchester resident Kevin O’Neill.
