HUDSON VALLEY, NY — There's a chance of snow overnight Friday to kick off the region's first spring weekend. Snow showers are expected in Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester counties, and there's a hazardous weather outlook for Dutchess.

In fact, Dutchess County could end up with a few inches of accumulated snow, especially across grassy and non paved surfaces. Locally slippery traveling and walking conditions may occur.

Then the Hudson Valley will have a chance to dry out, but it still won't feel like spring, because it'll be colder than normal for this time of year and the wind will be gusting 40-50 mph.

So if you put the patio furniture out because it's now spring, better tie it down.

"People should be prepared for power surges and localized power outages," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist. "The anticipated wind gusts can break large tree limbs and topple weakly rooted trees or trees that have remained upright in the soggy soil."

The winds will diminish somewhat for Saturday night into Sunday. High temps Saturday will be around 40 degrees, and could jump 10 degrees higher still on Sunday, according to Hudson Valley Weather.
