Croton-Harmon, Ossining Students Named Merit Semifinalists

The seniors are in the running for prestigious national awards in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.

OSSINING, NY — Four local residents are among the 152 Hudson Valley seniors who were named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists this past week. The scholarship organization announced the names Wednesday in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The 16,000 students named represent fewer than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.

  • Croton-Harmon High School: Taylor A. Coleman Ivenitsky
  • Ossining High School: Marlond G. Criollo, Skyler C. Jones and Emma San Martin

They have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title. (SIGN UP: Get Patch’s Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts.)
