“Dear Sandy” Highlights the American Heart Association
Assemblywoman Galef chats with Kailey Konow and Carolyn Torella

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef speaks with guests Carolyn Torella, the communications director of the American Heart Association Hudson Valley, and Kailey Konow, mother of Mila Rose Jr., honoree for the Westchester Heart Walk on her television program, “Dear Sandy.”
The American Heart Association raises awareness for heart disease, strokes, general heart defects, and more. Carolyn Torella mentions how because of technological advances, not only has life expectancy gone up, but the expectancy of surviving a heart attack is also higher. Kailey Konow, mother of Mila Rose, explains her story and how her daughter being diagnosed with a heart defect changed her life. In fact, 40,000 children a year are born with a heart defect. However, as Kailey explains Mila excels in everyday life and does not have limitations.
“Our hearts are incredible organs,” said Galef. “It is important to talk about keeping our hearts healthy and be aware of our neighbors and friends who are living with hearts that may not be working the way that they should.”
