Fallen Marine Honored at Ossining High School
Lance Corporal Craig Wyche, OHS class of 1982, was killed in Beirut bombing 35 years ago today.
Ossining, NY, October 23, 2018
Today marks the 35th anniversary of the terrorist attack of the Marine Peace Keeping Force deployed at the Beirut International Airport. During their deployment a terrorist drove his hijacked truck into the building that served as the barracks for the 1st Battalion 8th Marines, and then detonated his explosive. The death toll was 241 American servicemen: 220 Marines, 18 sailors, and 3 soldiers—making this incident the deadliest single-day death toll for the United States Marine Corps since the World War II Battle of Iwo Jima. One of the Marines killed was Lance Corporal Craig Wyche, a graduate of Ossining High School, Class of 1982.
Today members of the Marine Corps League-Westchester County Detachment, American Legion Post 506 and V.F.W Post 1041, along with members of the Wyche family held a ceremony to honor the Marine and fallen alumnus. The ceremony was held on the front lawn of Ossining High School where a tree grows in Lance Corporal Craig Wyche’s memory. (photo captions below)
