Flash Flood Warning For Rockland, Westchester, Southern Orange

Plus more severe storms are headed toward Rockland and Orange counties.

The National Weather Service has a Flash Flood Warning in effect until 9:45 p.m. for Rockland, Westchester and southern Orange counties.

At 813 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two and one half inches of rain have already fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include... New City, Ossining, Peekskill, New Canaan, Monsey, Nanuet, Haverstraw, Tarrytown, Mount Kisco, Suffern, Monroe, Nyack, Warwick, Sloatsburg and Hawthorne.

Instructions:
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Meanwhile, the NWS also issued a new Special Weather Statement at 8:25 p.m.

At 824 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Milford to near Sussex to Andover. Movement was east at 30 mph. Winds in excess of 40 mph are possible with these storms.

These storms will be near...
Unionville and Upper Greenwood Lake around 850 PM EDT.
Warwick around 855 PM EDT.
West Milford and Greenwood Lake around 900 PM EDT.
Sloatsburg and Bloomingdale around 910 PM EDT.
Ringwood and Pompton Lakes around 915 PM EDT.
Wayne around 920 PM EDT.
Paterson and Monsey around 925 PM EDT.
Paramus and Ridgewood around 930 PM EDT.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
