Flood Watches, Wet Halloween: Unsettled Hudson Valley

Here's how much rain fell in the region Sunday to kick off a soggy week.

HUDSON VALLEY — If you're looking for a good weather day then enjoy Monday because after a bit of sun the weather goes downhill for the rest of the work week. Sadly, Halloween looks dreary, as the National Weather Service is forecasting a 70 to 80 percent chance of rain during the afternoon and evening.

The communities on the Sound Shore won't really get a rest. There is a sequence of coastal flood watches for the region until Tuesday afternoon.

Also, if you thought Sunday was a super-soaker, you were right. The lower Hudson Valley was inundated with rain, and the Sound Shore got the brunt of it. A trained NWS spotter reported almost three inches of rain fell on Mamaroneck by 6 p.m. (See below for the full report.)

Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect around 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

Wednesday won't give us much time to dry out. The forecast calls for drizzle and patchy fog. Then on Thursday showers are likely. The good news is that temperatures will be mild.
