Freeze Watch Thursday Night In Rockland, Westchester

The NWS recommends you protect tender plants and take steps to prevent outdoor pipes you de-winterized from bursting.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Temperatures are going to drop below freezing Thursday night, and the National Weather Service wants the lower Hudson Valley to be prepared. A Freeze Watch has been issued for Westchester and Rockland Counties.

That doesn't mean it won't be freezing in Orange, Putnam, Dutchess and Ulster counties, just that the folks at the NWS assume people in those counties expect spring frosts. Temps there will be in the 20s.

The NWS recommends you take steps during the day to protect tender plants from the cold and to prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes you may have de-winterized.

Pipes should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.

If you've already activated your in-ground sprinkler system, drain it and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
