Friends of Richard G Wishnie Park donate $6,000 toward the installation of guardrail fencing in the park

The Friends of Richard G Wishnie Park is a 501c3 Not for Profit Corp whose mission statement We will work with the Village of Ossining on Special projects. All our proceeds from our fundraisers, donations and membership dues are donated to the Village in the form of funding so these projects can be completed. The all-volunteer board and members not only donate their expertise time and donations they also donate their sweat equity during Parks cleanup days.

To this end the Board consisting of the one and only Richard Wishnie, Steve Ho, Rika Levin, Omar Herrera and Sue Donnelly have decided to focus on some exciting projects for the park. We had a very successful fundraiser in the form of a Garden Soiree this past fall so that the Friends group could contribute funds, so the Village can complete the first of these projects.

Thank you to the Village of Ossining for not only repaving the path around the reservoir but also for widening the path making it more accessible for our walkers/runners as well as encouraging those with disabilities to enjoy this beautiful park. An added benefit resulting of from the repaving is that the path can now handle emergency vehicles, when needed.

There is a need for a guardrail on the reservoir side in certain areas to prevent accidents and with the assistance of Paul Fraioli, Debbie McDonnell and Dave from Dave’s fences we have a very affordable solution that is environmentally sensitive- a post and rail fence. Dave’s Fences is contributing $3,600 of labor toward the project the Village portion would be $3,500 with the Friends of Richard G. Wishnie Park are donating $6,000. In the past it has been a desire of the municipalities to have not for profits contribute 50% of the cost of a private public partnership but it this case we are so proud of all the folks who donated, came to the Garden Soiree or joined us as a member allowing us to pay for the bulk of the project.

Our next projects are a Historical sign about the water supply and the importance of the reservoir in the building of this great community and the development of a way for more people can get to the water’s edge easily to feed the fish and turtles.
