What materialized from the offshore storm? Wind, not rain. In its latest briefing, the National Weather Service discontinued its Storm Warnings and converted to Gale Warnings in the Atlantic.

There is still a Coastal Flood Advisory for southern Westchester and southwestern Connecticut.

"When you have a coastal storm stalled and spinning off shore, you’re going to see some shaky forecasts turn out a bit different than what was forecasted," said Bill Potter and Alex Marra of Hudson Valley Weather.

There's a Gale Warning out on the Atlantic Ocean from New Jersey to Connecticut. While Long Island will protect the Hudson Valley somewhat, the National Weather Service has updated its coastal flood advisory for southern Westchester.

It is in effect until 1 p.m. this afternoon. High, gusty onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

  • COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Brief minor coastal flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect up to 1 foot of inundation above ground level. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
  • OUTLOOK...Localized minor coastal flooding is possible into Saturday.

Accuweather Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said the difference in barometric pressure between the storm and high pressure over eastern Canada is funneling strong winds into coastal areas, blustery conditions across interior central New England and a stiff breeze along and just northwest of Interstate 95 in the mid-Atlantic.

The rain just went away.

Instead rain is coming down further east. As of 3 a.m. Friday, Nantucket, Massachusetts, had had nearly 3 inches of rain.

As for the Gale Warning: Offshore seas may build to 30 feet or higher due to the strong, stalled storm. Crews and passengers of large vessels should be prepared for stormy conditions or avoid traveling through waters off the mid-Atlantic and New England coasts until the storm moves away and seas subside later this weekend.

Onshore, tides are the issue, forecasters said.

The weekend looks to bring lovely autumn weather.
