Assemblywoman Sandy Galef applauds Governor Cuomo's call for an independent risk assessment of the AIM Pipeline project
Assemblywoman Sandy Galef applauds Governor Andrew Cuomo for his recent release of a statement calling upon the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to halt construction of the Algonquin Incremental Market (AIM) Project in order to start an independent safety risk analysis. Cuomo has joined with many federal, state, and local officials and citizens in calling the safety of this project into question.
The Governor’s recent letter addressed to FERC directs the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the New York State Department of Health, and the New York State Department of Public Service to begin work on an assessment on the environmental, health, and safety risks posed by siting the pipeline in such close vicinity to a nuclear power plant.
“As an elected official representing the area surrounding Indian Point and the proposed path of the AIM Pipeline, I know how important independent analyses and second opinions can be, especially in circumstances in which two large energy production systems are intersecting,” said Galef. “I am thankful for the Governor’s concern for the protection of the health and livelihoods of my constituents and for his commitment to an independent safety study.”

“My next step will be to join the Governor in calling on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to stop any action on the Algonquin Pipeline until this independent safety study has been completed,” Galef concluded.
