HUDSON VALLEY — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous outlook for Dutchess and Ulster counties. The rest of the region has a diminishing chance of snow on Thursday, but we'll all be shivering.

The hazardous weather outlook for the mid-Hudson Valley says:

Rain on Thursday will change over to snow before ending on Thursday night. A light accumulation is possible, mainly on grassy and non- paved surfaces. Some surfaces may become slick by late Thursday night as temperatures fall below freezing.

Orange and Putnam counties still have a slight chance of snow mixed in with rain Thursday night. Rockland and Westchester counties should just get rain.

For everyone, it's going to get cold starting Wednesday night after a nice sunny day.

Temperatures will fall into the 20s and 30s, and that's before the cold front approaches Thursday. Rain will overspread the region late Thursday afternoon with a chance of snow showers mixing in across the far north and west as the front moves through Thursday night.

Sunshine returns on Friday; however, it will be much cooler with highs 10 to 15 degrees below normal.

"Remember, it doesn’t typically want to snow in early Nov, it takes multiple atmospheric ingredients to come together just right," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "By the looks of the first half of November, we will have more wintery trickery to navigate through."

The core of the cold will shift farther east still into Friday night, AccuWeather meteorologists said. Most locations in the Northeast will bottom out in the teens and 20s by Saturday morning.

Here's a look at the next 48 hours from the NWS. Note the small chance of snow tucked into the lower right corner:
