With the region draped in fog, the National Weather Service issued hazardous weather outlooks for later Thursday. Thunderstorms, gusty winds and flash flooding are the primary threats.

For Dutchess and Ulster counties:

Periods of heavy rain are expected today as a low pressure system moves through the region. Low lying, urban and poor drainage areas may experience flooding due to downpours within thunderstorms. There is a low chance for an isolated flash flood as well.
There is also a chance for thunderstorms across the Capital Region, Catskills, and Mid-Hudson Valley into western MA and NW CT. A few of the storms may become severe with strong to damaging winds being the primary threat.

This one covers Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties:

A few thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening could produce strong wind gusts and localized flash flooding.

By the way, that fog could hang around until nearly noon, the NWS said.

Areas of fog, with locally dense at times with visibility less than 1 mile will persist into mid morning. Motorists should be prepared for rapidly changing visibilities this morning and exercise extra caution.

The "unsettled conditions" will continue through Friday morning. The possible thunderstorms, with strong gusty winds and heavy rain, will occur from the New York City metro north and west.

The cold front and low pressure is expected to move offshore Friday morning signaling an end to the unsettled weather. High pressure returns for the weekend with near seasonable temperatures and dry conditions, the NWS said.
