Hazardous Weather Outlook For Hudson Valley New Year's Day

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Looks as if 2019 will greet us with a roar. If you're polar-plunging for charity, or out at a parade or a game, you may want the windbreaker instead of the shearling.

The National Weather Service has issued hazardous weather outlooks for much of the Hudson Valley for New Year's Day. For Ulster County, the National Weather Service has already issued a Wind Advisory, in effect from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.


* Location...Mohawk Valley, Schoharie Valley, eastern Catskills, Helderbergs, Capital District, northern and central Taconics, southern Green Mountains and northern Litchfield Hills.

* Winds...West 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* Timing...Tuesday morning into the afternoon.

* Impacts...Strong winds may knock down large tree limbs and a few trees as well. Isolated power outages are possible.

For the lower HV, the NWS says there is moderate potential for wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph Tuesday morning, with a low potential for gusts of 50 to 55 mph. However, a wind advisory could be issued if the forecast shifts.

It will be mostly sunny, though a chance of rain will linger into the morning. It will be milder, with highs in the lower 50s; however temps will fall into the lower 40s in the afternoon.
