Heat Index Near 100, Severe Storms Thursday: HV Weather

Here's what's coming when.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — We are going to feel relief from the brutal heat, but Thursday is not the day. A heat advisory will be in effect for most of the Hudson Valley until 7 p.m. However, there is the potential for severe thunderstorms later in the day, rolling in ahead of a much-anticipated cold front.

The heat index – how hot it feels with the humidity factored in – will approach 100 degrees on Thursday, the National Weather Service says. A heat advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. for Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, as well as eastern Ulster. However, the break will come late this afternoon, as that cold front coming in from the Great Lakes will trigger a round of showers and thunderstorms, some of which may contain heavy rain and gusty winds.
