Hendrick Hudson Library Hosts Successful Grand Re-Opening of New State of the Art Children’s Room
Hundreds on hand for Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
The Hendrick Hudson Free Library in Montrose hosted a special community wide event last week to mark the Grand Re-Opening of their newly renovated Children’s Room. Hundreds of community members attended the official ribbon cutting ceremony which was followed by many free events for the whole family, a variety of vending trucks and a raffle for a handmade quilt. Several local dignitaries such as Assemblywoman Sandy Galef, County Legislator John Testa and George Oros, Director of Economic Development/Special Advisor to the County Executive were on hand at the event. Also attending the special event were County Legislator Catherine Borgia, Town of Cortlandt Supervisor Linda Puglisi and Town Board member Frank Farrell. The new Children’s Room will officially be open for public use around October 30th.
The free events for the day included Face Painting, Balloon Animals, a Child ID station, and several Bounce Castles for kids. Children's author Jerry Pinkney was at the event signing his books which were available for purchase. Vending Trucks offered all kinds of food including: Put Some Meat on Your Bones-grilled cheese, Firedogs-hot dogs, and Ice Cream. Each attendee at the event received a free ticket for either a Grilled Cheese sandwich or a Hot Dog and one free ice cream treat. The library also raffled off a beautiful quilt that was handmade by library patrons who attended a special 4-part workshop at the library. The quilt was won by local resident Lisa Sokal.
According to Jill Davis, Library Director for Hendrick Hudson, the library staff dedicated several months to planning this event and was thrilled to successfully mark this milestone for the library with the whole community. “It was so exciting to reveal our beautiful brand new, state of the art Children’s Room with a Grand Re-Opening event that so many of our neighbors and patrons came to see. Several hundred people were on hand to for the reveal and the whole community enjoyed a fun filled day,” said Davis.
