Significant Snow: Hudson Valley On Winter Storm Watch For Sunday

A significant snowfall could hit the region Sunday afternoon and trouble the Monday morning commute.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm watches for the lower Hudson Valley. A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may affect travel.

However, the NWS is hedging its bets. "There is still a fairly large range of possible outcomes with respect to snow amounts, but at least some snow is expected to fall," meteorologists said in the Saturday briefing.

Here's the forecast as of 3:30 p.m. Saturday for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties:

Moderate to heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 7 inches possible from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning.

For Dutchess and Ulster counties:

Total snow accumulations 7 or more inches possible for the eastern Catskills, mid Hudson Valley, and the southern and central Taconics.
