Ossining Names 2 New Principals

The musical-chair appointments are reminiscent of Regina Cellio's appointment to principal of AMD, from which she will retire this year.

OSSINING, NY — With longtime Principal Regina Cellio retiring, Ossining school district Ray Sanchez has made two appointments to replace her. He has recommended that the school trustees appoint Claremont Principal Kate Mathews as the next principal of Anne M. Dorner Middle School.

That's the route Cellio took to the job she will leave at the end of the school year.

He has picked Ferzeen Shamsi to be principal at Claremont.

They should be officially appointed at the Board of Education meeting on March 13, and start in their new roles on July 1.

"Both Kate and Ferzeen are experienced and successful administrators who have dedicated many years to serving our community," Sanchez said.

Mathews began her career in Ossining in 2005. She has been the Director of Cultural Arts, AMD Assistant Principal and Claremont Principal. Shamsi began her career in Ossining in 1994 and currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Claremont School. She has also served as Assistant Principal at Brookside and has been a leader in our summer school programs for many years.

"Throughout their years in the district, they have shown a strong commitment to our students and staff. They have also remained focused on educating the whole child," he said. "I am confident Ms. Mathews and Ms. Shamsi will provide continuity in each of their buildings and will make smooth transitions into their new positions. They will help build upon the present strengths of AMD and Claremont and lead us with experience and confidence into the future. Please join me in congratulating Ms. Mathews and Ms. Shamsi on their new roles."
