Photo Exhibit Showcases Nature's Wonders

Visit Maryknoll through mid-December to view stunning photography by Brother John Argauer.

The Photographs of Brother John E. Argauer, M.M., a new exhibit that captures the wonders of nature, currently is on display at the Maryknoll Museum of Living Mission at the Maryknoll Mission Center at 55 Ryder Road in Ossining.

In this exhibit of more than 30 images from the camera of Brother John E. Argauer, visitors will marvel at God’s creation through the beauty of flowers, animals and insects that were discovered at various locations in Westchester County and nearby areas.

The exhibit will continue through mid-December. The museum is open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Click here for directions.

Missionary And Photographer

Brother John is from Buffalo, New York, where he attended St. Bernard Grammar School and graduated from Bishop Ryan High School. He attended Erie County Technical Institute for one year before entering Maryknoll during September 1959.

Brother John took his first Oath to the Maryknoll Society on June 29, 1961. At the time, he received the religious name of Brother Jonathan. He took his Perpetual Oath on June 24, 1967.

Brother John was assigned to the United States region and worked at a variety of jobs at the Maryknoll Center in New York until 1972. On July 1 of that year, he was assigned to the Chile Region, where he helped with the construction of several houses, taught religious studies and drove vehicles for the ambulance service. He returned to the United States during 1983.

Today, Brother John is a part-time photographer for Orbis Books, the book division of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. He also is a photographer for Maryknoll magazine and Revista Maryknoll. Brother John also works with the grounds crew at the Maryknoll Mission Center. He plants spring-flowering bulbs during the fall and entices flowers to bloom indoors during January.
