Poetry Festival this Saturday in Dobbs Ferry

Westchester Poetry Festival will take place this Saturday at The Masters School. Aja Monet will deliver the keynote reading.

The 5th Annual Westchester Poetry Festival, co-sponsored by The Masters School and The Hudson Valley Writers’ Center, will take place on April 11 from 1 -5:30 pm in historic Estherwood Mansion on The Masters School campus.

Aja Monet will deliver the keynote reading at the festival. Monet is an internationally established poet, singer-songwriter and human rights advocate. The youngest individual to win the legendary Nuyorican Poet’s Café Grand Slam title (at age 19), Ms. Monet is recognized for combining her spellbinding voice and powerful imagery on stage, captivating audiences in the United States, Europe and Cuba.
In 2014, Monet received the “One to Watch Award” from the YWCA of the City of New York. The annual award honors a woman under the age of 30 who exemplifies the organization’s mission: “eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.” The event will feature readings by students, as well as by the following acclaimed poets, all published: Sally Bliumis-Dunn, Suzanne Cleary, Katy Lederer, and Matthew Thornburn.
Admission and parking at the festival, which is open to the public, are free. High school students and adults are welcome to attend.
