Rain, Snow, Repeat: Hudson Valley Weekend

And more chances for snow are coming up, meteorologists say.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Snow; rain and snow; rain, rain and snow — the forecast is beginning to feel like a Monty Python sketch.

"An active weather pattern is developing, and the action begins on Friday afternoon as a low pressure system moves from west to east across the Great Lakes and upper Ohio Valley. Snow will develop across the Hudson Valley," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

Rain and then snow, or snow and rain together, are likely late Friday. Snow is expected Saturday morning. There's a chance of snow Sunday night, and snow mixed with rain is likely Monday.

Little to no accumulation, though. Perhaps 1-4 inches, Hudson Valley Weather said, with western Orange County having the best chance for the most snow.

"Temperatures during the day may climb far above freezing, making it difficult for snow to accumulate on paved surfaces," explained Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

That's only the first storm that forecasters are tracking.

"This system is likely the appetizer to what could be the 'main course' for Monday into Tuesday ... as another low pressure is expected to develop along the coast," Potter said. "That system could intensify into a potent nor'easter, so we will be watching closely."

Meanwhile, the snow drought has lasted. New York City has officially measured 2.3 inches of snow for the entire winter season, including the 0.1 of an inch that fell Monday night to early Tuesday.

"This compares to a historical average of about 26 inches through March 7," Sosnowski said.
