Snow Advisory: Earlier Start In The Hudson Valley For First Storm
Snow totals have crept up as well for the first snowfall of the season. Here are the latest details.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The amount of snow expected Saturday has crept up a bit as meteorologists watch the progression of the winter storm sweeping the East Coast. Also, the National Weather Service is forecasting an earlier start in its Winter Storm Advisory
The Sound Shore could get 4-8 inches of snow, Hudson Valley Weather predicts. Inland up the river, expect 3-6 inches as far as north as Kingston. For once, the Catskills won't receive the brunt of the storm — only 1-3 inches.
The snow is expected to fall starting on Saturday morning in Westchester County, and move north as the day progresses. The National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory now stretches from 4 a.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday — starting two hours earlier than estimated just Friday morning.

"The snow will fall through the afternoon hours, and into the evening on Saturday. Snowfall rates up to a 1/2 inch per hour are possible, so we’re not expecting widespread heavy snow," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "But visibilities could be reduced due to the falling snow, so be sure to factor that in."
The snow will taper off overnight, though some snow showers are possible Sunday morning. Temperatures will remain in the low- to mid-30s.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
After that? Well, it'll really feel like winter, even though we're more than a week from the Solstice. The NWS said dry weather will return for Sunday with blustery and cold conditions, with wind chills in the upper 20s throughout much of the day.
