Snow, Sleet To Hit Hudson Valley Monday Night

The storm shouldn't get here by the Monday evening commute, but it never hurts to be prepared.

We've been sufficiently snow-deprived in the Hudson Valley so far this winter (the storm that dumped seven inches on us was in the fall) that the mention of an inch or so of wintry mix in the forecast is actually somewhat noteworthy. And that is exactly what we're looking at late Monday and early Tuesday.

While no one is expected to see more than an inch or two of snow from this "storm," the timing may be a cause for concern. Snow is forecast to begin Monday night and continue into early Tuesday where it will mix with sleet and then change to rain by mid-morning.

"The moisture appears rather limited, but some slick spots could be an issue Monday night and Tuesday morning," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

The National Weather Service says:

Precipitation will start off as a wintry mix most places. However, with temperatures expected to rise overnight, a change over to plain rain is likely into Tuesday morning, with most areas seeing plain rain by mid-morning. Up to an inch of snow is possible, especially across the higher elevation inland areas. A glaze of ice is also possible across areas north and west of New York City.

Accumulation is expected to be less than an inch, but the period of sleet that is forecast could lead to slippery driving conditions.
