HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Snow and sleet are both in the overnight forecast for Friday. Snow and sleet.
"However… timing is CRITICAL to any potential wet snow this time of year… and the timing looks like it will work against anyone hoping to see some wet snow," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.
As temperatures drop below freezing, there's a 30 percent chance of snow starting after midnight. Then cooler than average lows are expected in the Northeast on Friday, the National Weather Service predicted. The temps will struggle to reach 40 degrees. Still, snow will turn to light rain and light freezing rain all day Friday. A slushy accumulation is possible in the higher elevations.

"Freezing rain and snow accumulation on roads during April is rare. However, the fact that it snowed and accumulated on the roads during the middle of the day much farther south in the Carolinas on Tuesday, April 2, demonstrates that it can happen," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.
If you're looking toward the weekend, Saturday looks to be relatively sunny. Rain showers return Sunday.
