HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Much of the lower Hudson Valley is under alert for severe scattered thunderstorms, some bringing downpours, gusty winds and hail.

At 2:44 p.m., Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm capable of producing winds to around 30 knots and small hail, moving southeast in the western Long Island Sound, the National Weather Service said.

Meanwhile, smoke from the wildfires raging in Quebec has drifted through the Hudson Valley, creating widespread haze and areas of smoke that can be smelled and seen.
