Route 134 Closure Starts Monday In Ossining

Crews start replacing a culvert at the intersection of 9A; this could last 3 weeks....and Lou's Lunch Wagon will be on vacation.

OSSINING, NY — You won't be able to take Route 134 across Route 9A for at least two weeks, starting Monday. The intersection will be closed crews from the New York Department of Transportation can replace a culvert at the intersection. Also, the Ossining Town Highway Department will take advantage of the DOT's work to replace a stormwater pipe underneath the road.

The closure will also involve Croton Dam Road between 9A and Feeney Road.

The work is scheduled for Sept. 11-22, but could stretch to Sept. 29, said Town Supervisor Dana Levenberg in an email to residents.

"Although this will be inconvenient for many of us, this work has been planned for many years," Levenberg said. "Once complete, this will be a win-win for everyone and we very much look forward to getting it underway."

Lou's Lunch Wagon will be on vacation, as the pull-off area for the hot dog truck will be full of equipment and impossible to get to anyway.

The detour instructions are complicated if you don't know the area, but easy if you do. They involve Route 134, Hawkes Avenue, Croton Dam Road, Ryder Road and Narragansett Avenue. They are below.

Detours:

Southbound Traffic on Rt. 9A at Rt. 134 will not be able to turn right.

  • If you want to get to Croton Dam Road: Go south on Rte. 9A to the next exit at Ryder Road; take Ryder Road west to Narragansett Avenue and turn right; take Narragansett to Croton Dam Road.
  • If you want to get to Route 133: take the Ryder Road exit and turn left, take Campwoods Road to the light at Croton Avenue (Rte 133). Or go south one more exit to Route 133.

Northbound Traffic on Rt. 9A at Rt. 134 will not be able to turn left.

Go north on 9A to the next exit, which is Hawkes Avenue. Turn left to go west on Route 134.

Westbound Traffic on Rt. 134 (Croton Dam Road) will not be able to cross over Rt. 9A.

Instead, turn right and take the next exit on the right for Hawkes Avenue. Then turn left to go over the highway and down Route 134.

Eastbound on Dale Avenue, Route 134, Croton Dam Road:

  • If you want to keep going east on Rte. 134 past 9A, take the right fork onto Croton Dam Road toward 9A. You'll have to turn right onto on Narragansett Avenue and take it to Ryder Road. Stay right, and take Campwoods Road to Rt. 133 (Croton Avenue). Turn left onto Rte. 133 to the entrance for Rte. 9A North and go one exit to turn back onto Rte. 134 eastbound.
  • If you intend to go North on Rt. 9A, go left at the fork onto Route 134 and you will be able to take the Hawkes Avenue ramp, which will be open.
  • If you're on Dale Avenue and you want to go south on 9A, turn right onto Pine Avenue, take it to Narragansett, then get the Ryder Road entrance to 9A south or follow Campwoods Road to 133, where you can get onto 9A going north or south.

Use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay particular attention to flaggers and all traffic control devices, including signs.

Remember, fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
