Subject: We Keeping Losing Our Power Because You Don’t Use Your Power!
A state-appointed commission that studied Superstorm Sandy criticized Con Ed and NYSEG for being unprepared. A federal study stated Sandy’s “destruction stripped bare a number of areas where our institutional mechanisms fell far short of what was needed.”
This year’s storms resulted in even more havoc. Why wasn’t anyone ensuring that all previous recommendations were implemented?

You must measure progress against the promises; not keep your fingers crossed!
Now Senator Murphy wants to shut down NYSEG because he can’t ensure compliance. Would you close the schools because some children failed a test?
If you want to ensure that the same problems don’t happen again you don’t just determine what needs fixing. You make certain the problems ARE fixed. Insisting on improvements but NOT checking to see they’re being implemented should be considered negligence.

According to a March 11, 2018 LoHud article “The system is controlled entirely by the utility companies themselves, with the NYS Public Service Commission having input only after the fact.” This kind of supervision guarantees failure.
The reason I’m voting for Robert Kesten in the Democratic Primary on Thursday, September 13th is he’s ready to put in place a monitoring process to keep the utilities feet to fire. No more unfulfilled promises. It’s time to put serious penalties in place if commitments aren’t met.
