Wires on Fire, Woman in Ravine, Gas Leak Investigations
It was a busy week for the Ossining Fire Department

March 23: Motor vehicle accident at Upper Croton and Bell avenues; Engine 101, Rescue 14, & Cars 2332 & 2334 responded to assist Ossining EMS & Police.
March 24: Evening rush: To 121 South Highland Ave for an inside odor of gas —it was a gas stove left in the on position in an unoccupied apartment. Then to Watson Ave a small fire in a back yard. Finally a Commercial Fire Alarm at Ossining Open Door—set off by burnt food. By the end of the day, the OFD had responded to 165 requests for service in 2015.
March 25: Steady day of calls (see Facebook post embedded below). A Spring Street building with apartments and food establishments was checked by members with negative readings but a slight odor of natural gas was present; turned over to Con Ed. Then called to Crotonville behind the Indian Brook Water Treatment Facility for a rescue. A woman was 100 feet down a ravine in the water with potential hypothermia symptoms. With the rough and steep terrain, OFD members set up rope systems and deployed the stokes basket to move the patient to higher ground safely. Meanwhile, units were called to Dale Ave for a gas investigation, which was turned over to Con Ed. Finally, just 5:30pm, the OFD was dispatched to Charter Circle on the Villages south end—which turned out to only be a high volume of steam from a dryer vent.

March 26: Called to do fluid control and removal after a morning accident on Hawkes Avenue. Then at 7 p.m. called to Emwilton Place and South Highland Avenue where a primary power line was burning with transformer components arcing.
