American Heart Association Internship
As a Communications Intern with the American Heart Association I have learned how important it is to know how to execute hands-only CPR.

Today, I started my position as Communications Intern with the American Heart Association in New York City. I am an incoming junior studying Public Relations at Syracuse University and I greatly value volunteerism and community service. I am very excited to learn more about communications, public relations and social media and how communications directly helps a nonprofit function and thrive.
I am especially excited to be starting during National CPR and AED Awareness Week. It is extremely important to know CPR because at any moment someone’s life can be in danger. I believe that everyone should be educated on how to perform hands-only CPR. Hands-only CPR does not require any form of certification, it simply requires a person that is aware, educated and ready to help.
When performing hands-only CPR you should place the heel of your hand over your other hand and lace your fingers together. Then, push hard and fast in the center of the person’s chest until they start breathing again or more help arrives.

If CPR is performed immediately it can double or triple the cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival. Knowing how to do hands-only CPR can save a person’s life in a time of need. So, to celebrate National CPR Awareness Week and to help prevent deaths related to cardiac arrest, educate yourself on hands-only CPR. Be the difference for someone you love!
