Cops: Bayville Fireman Set Blaze at Oyster Bay's Mill Pond House
The fire destroyed the historic home in March 2014, authorities said.

A Bayville volunteer firefighter is facing charges for a suspicious fire that destroyed the historic Mill Pond House in Oyster Bay last March, authorities said.
Nassau Police have charged Christopher Zaino, 20, with third-degree arson for the blaze at the Town of Oyster Bay property at 1065 W. Shore Road on March 22 at 9:25 p.m.
The fire was battled by Oyster Bay Fire Department, with help from Atlantic Steamer, Locust Valley and Bayville Fire Departments. Police say 100 firefighters with 15 pieces of fire apparatus fought the blaze and successfully extinguished the fire that destroyed the vacant home.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal and Arson/Bomb squad detectives deemed the fire suspicious at the time. A subsequent investigation led detectives to Zaino, who, at the time, served as a Bayville Fire Department volunteer fireman.
Zaino faces arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
