• Town of Oyster Bay and Big Hy for Heroes partner to support U.S. Armed Forces, children's hospitals (liherald.com) — Oyster Bay residents can support U.S. service members and children's hospitals this month by donating new or gently used DVDs at Town Hall North through September 30. The town is partnering with Massapequa-based Big Hy for Heroes, which has shipped hundreds of thousands of DVDs to deployed troops since 2002, to help create movie nights and comfort far from home.

• Long Island's summer extends into fall as businesses keep bustling beyond Labor Day (newsday.com) — Warm weather is keeping Oyster Bay's waterfront businesses and town beaches busy well past Labor Day, giving residents extra weekends to enjoy the bay and support local spots like Cooper Bluff and Coach Meeting House. Lifeguards will remain on duty at town beaches on weekends through the end of September, as Long Island's "second hit of summer" boosts tourism and local revenue.
