Pizza Bar Clears Hurdle To Open In 12th Street Bar And Grill Spot

The community board unanimously said yes to a liquor license for the new restaurant and bar.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — The new restaurant proposed for the Eighth Avenue spot once run by 12th Street Bar and Grill will be a pizza bar, community board members said this week.

Community Board 6 members unanimously approved a liquor license for the incoming restaurant, which was filed by a group called "OLI restaurant." The 1123 8th Avenue corner spot operated as 12th Street Bar and Grill and more recently Hooked on 12th before it closed down.

Rachel Freeman, chair of the board's Permits and Licenses Committee, told members that the new proposed owners also have other restaurants in the area.

"They run a restaurant that's a block away, so they are familiar with the location," Freeman said.

The new restaurant will have a typical pizza and cocktail menu, she added.

One board member asked if the new owners knew that the "corner is cursed," in that there have been at least four restaurants in that space over the past 20 years. Freeman said they were aware of the history.

The liquor license will ultimately need to be approved by the State Liquor Authority.

Records show that OLI has also filed permits to renovate the space. The renovation plans include about $121,000 of "general construction and plumbing work" to the first floor, records show.

Representatives from the restaurant told Patch they would likely have an update in February.
